The northern part of the Upper Gulf does not have the most interesting beaches. Sure, you will find plenty of beaches near Cha’am and Hua Hin are considered a prime beach destinations in Thailand, but we wouldn’t recommend them these days because of the number of tourists.
Our first TreasureBeaches in the Upper Gulf are just south of Hua Hin, where the beaches get quieter the further south you go. Most of the beaches in the Upper Gulf are on the mainland, most of them face east, giving you great sunrise views. Try the tropical island of Ko Talu, a nice surprise in the Upper Gulf.
We often visit the Upper Region by car because most of the beaches are on the mainland and it makes it easy to get anywhere. You can rent the car in Bangkok or at the airports of Chumphon and Surat Thani.
A daily tidal cycle in the Gulf of Thailand means there is one high tide and one low tide each day. Depending on the time of year, one of these tides can last up to an entire beach day. You can check www.tide-forecast.com for tide information in different areas in Thailand.
When it comes to the weather, the Upper Gulf is the most stable region to visit all year round. The region is generally drier than the rest of the country. The best time to visit this region is from November to June, and good to know is that the summer months are drier compared to most other regions.
