ISLAND
Ko Kut, also known as Koh Kood, is Thailand’s fourth largest island. We think it’s a perfect paradise: lots of palm trees, clear water and lots of good beaches. Ko Kut is known for its pristine natural beauty, lush rainforests, clear waters, and serene atmosphere. The island offers a variety of beautiful beaches, each with its unique charm. Here it is almost impossible to rank our top beaches against each other, as they are all amazing and equally deserving of a diamond. We listed 6 beaches on Ko Kut, but keep in mind that some beaches which are not in our database, are still great beaches. However, we had to make a choice.

The island is much less crowded compared to Ko Chang. The beaches are located on the west side of the island, ideal for colorful sunsets. The further south you go, the quieter it gets. The island is known for diving and also offers places to take cooking or yoga classes.

WHAT TO DO
Ko Kut is surrounded by coral and there are numerous colorful fish that you can encounter underwater. There are several diving spots in the area allowing you to choose from a numerous number of diving schools. For a reliable dive center try Koh Kood Divers (www.kohkooddivers.com).

The island has several waterfalls where you can take a refreshing dip and enjoy the natural beauty of the rainforest. The lush interior of Ko Kut offers hiking and trekking opportunities. You are able to explore the jungle, visit viewpoints, and appreciate the island’s flora and fauna.

On the east side of Ko Kut you can visit 2 small fishing villages. In the northeast you will find the Ao Salud and in the southeast Laem Ao Yai.

The only downside to Ko Kut is there can be sand fleas on the beaches. You should be aware of the possibility and protect yourself with the special oil and spray sold in the nearby area. Sand fleas are most active when the sun is not strong: in the early morning, late afternoon and during cloudy days.

TRANSPORT
From Bangkok you can fly to Trat. There are also several bus and minibus connections to Trat, which is about a 5-hour drive. From Trat, take a taxi or minibus to Laem Sok Pier, which is a 20-minute ride. Then catch a boat to Ko Kut. There are several boat services, so check the internet for timetables. Most boat companies offer free transfer between the pier and the stays. There are additional boat connections to and from Ko Mak, Ko Wai and Ko Chang.

On Ko Kut you can easily rent scooters and there are plenty of well-maintained concrete roads to explore the island. Getting to the resorts with scooters can be a bit difficult. Some beaches are connected to the main road only by dirt roads which may take some patience and practice to navigate through comfortably, especially in the dark or after the rain.
