Ko Muk, also known as Koh Mook, is a beautiful island in Trang Province in southern Thailand. It is a good destination for travelers seeking a mix of relaxation and adventure in a serene and natural setting. The beaches on Ko Muk are quite different in quality, so pay attention to which beach you choose.
Ko Muk is big enough to rent scooters, but small enough to manage on foot. We simply walk around the island and take a motorbike taxi back to our stay at the end of the day. You will find mangroves, lovely wide beaches, fishing villages and everything is connected with small cement roads. There are nice hotels in the fishing villages, and it is a good walk or a short scooter or bike ride to get to any of the beaches.
WHAT TO DO
The Thung Teao Forest Natural Park offers hiking trails and a jungle trek that leads to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the island. The Emerald Cave on Ko Muk is an attraction that gets tourists from Ko Lanta and all other islands in the area. The cave is only accessible by swimming through the narrow entrance. As you swim through the dark cave, you are greeted at the end with the mesmerizing sight of the emerald lagoon. If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend going in the early morning or late afternoon.
Highly recommended is a daytrip by longtail boat to the islands Ko Kradan and Ko Libong. Definitely do not forget to make a stop at Yao Beach on the mainland too, where you can visit the limestone rock that towers over the empty beach. This excursion cost about 3,000 to 4,000 baht. We recommend just asking around and get a good deal with one of the fishermen. Bring your snorkeling mask!

TRANSPORT
The city of Trang is a good starting point to reach Ko Muk. Trang is a friendly provincial town to spend the night. Wander the streets and eat at the night market in Ruenrom Alley, about a 15-minute walk from the train station. We advise going to Trang Happy Trip & Tour (081 607 2411) next to the train station to arrange your transportation. You will receive professional help with a smile for fair prices.
A 30-minute minibus ride gets you to the boat, which leaves at 11:00 a.m. This will cost you 350 baht per person. Private transportation from Trang to Ko Muk costs 1800 baht. Boat companies stop at Ko Muk from Ko Lanta, as well as from some southern areas of the island.
It is easy to rent scooters on this island.
